History
As a traveler, art historian, and educator, arming myself and my traveling companions with context and a historical perspective before getting on the plane is part of the exciting process of travel. Below are helpful links giving bite-sized content on the history and art of Rome spanning millennia - from its ancient empire to the centuries that followed.

The origins of Rome begin with its mythological founding by brothers Remus and Romulus (for whom the city is thusly named). Abandoned by their mother, but nurtured and suckled by a she-wolf, the brothers made their home along the Tiber River in what is now modern-day Rome. Flash forward 2,500 years later and the city is awash with those millennia leaving their ever-present impressions still visible today. Wander down one of Rome’s narrow vicoli and take in the medieval, Renaissance, and baroque architecture and art that are still plainly visible. Wander a step further and catch the sun reflecting off the marbles of ruined ancient columns dotting the city.
